MAIL Newspapers has awarded South Wales newsagent Jonathan Powell a massive one million Nectar points for his success in generating more readers.
The win for Mr Powell, of The Newsagent Direct in Newport, makes him the UK’s latest Nectar millionaire in a scheme launched jointly by Mail Newspapers and the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN).
To be in with a chance of winning, the retailers had to:
· Increase their sales of the Mail from Monday 11 September to Sunday 8 October
· Complete the online entry form with their results from the promotion
· Upload photos to support their entry of their enhanced newspaper displays and the provided MyMail point of sale promoting the partnership
· Be a member of the NFRN.
Mr Powell won not only for his support of the launch of the MyMail and Nectar partnership but for his creative ways of getting his customers involved. He promoted the offer across all his social media channels – generating more than 13,000 engagements with his Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn posts about the offer. He also included the MyMail and Nectar message on his own home news delivery leaflets and distributed them to homes in the Newport area and made sure all staff made every customer they spoke to aware of the scheme.
“It’s great to see the positive support generated for this initiative by all of the entries," said Andy Law, Mail Newspapers sales manager, independents.
"Jonathan promoted the scheme in a really creative way, and we are pleased his business reaped the benefits with some fantastic sales growth. Well done Jonathan a deserved winner.”
NFRN chief executive Paul Baxter added: “This is an excellent example of positive engagement between Mail Newspapers and NFRN members and demonstrates how well independent retailers can support national promotions to their customers. Congratulations Jonathan.”
